Budget often thrashes the ultimate goals of travelling. Kheerganga is not one of them. Kheerganga trek is a beautiful trek laid out in Himachal Pradesh and visited by thousands of people every year. I made a budget trip to Kheerganga and I am here to tell you how.
My Own Experience Of Kheerganga Trek:
I had a pretty rough and unique experience since it was the last day of Kheerganga trek. If you want to read my experience of Kheerganga Trek, please visit this link. It is a multi-part story, and you can start from that link and comment on your thoughts.
Anyways, if you are here just to get an idea about how to visit Kheerganga and how to plan a trip there, you are in the right place. So, let's start.
How To Reach Kheerganga Trek From Delhi
Kheerganga is only accessible by road and airways from anywhere in the world.
Reaching Kheerganga By Bus:
Kheerganga can be reached by bus through HIMSUTA buses or any other Volvo buses from Delhi, Dehradun and Haridwar. This is an overnight journey.
I boarded a bus from Haridwar and it cost me around 250 INR. Also, it was a non-ac bus and a very decent one. The rates are always changing so you can plan accordingly.
Reaching Kheerganga By Air:
Kheerganga can be reached by air through Kasol airport. Kasol airport will have direct flights from Delhi only otherwise you have to make a halt. Kasol airport is just in front of the Bhuntar bus stand. So, either you go from bus or air, you will reach the same point.
From Bhuntar To Tosh:
You will be dropped at the Bhuntar bus stand. From there, you need to board another bus to Barshaini. Barshaini is the main starting point of the trek also called the base of the trek. It is a very small village and very limited resources. You will get ample options to eat though. Bus charges very nominally around 50 rupees.
Duration: around 2.5 hours.
From Barshaini, you need to take a taxi to Tosh, if you want to visit tosh.
Tosh is a village located just above Barshaini (4 km To be exact).
Barshaini to Tosh can be reached via Taxi which charges 400 INR. They normally do not negotiate since they have a lot of customers.
Duration : Maximum 30 minutes.
Where To Stay In Tosh Valley?
Tosh has a lot of options for you to stay. They let you stay inside the guest houses. Guesthouses are a floor above where the people live.
They also have hotels but they are very less.
I stayed at the mountain goat hotel. It is really one of the best and the owner is great. But, it is a little far from where the taxi will leave you. You need to walk a little to get there. But, it is worth it.
Charges: 500 Rupees per night per room.
Tosh To Kheerganga Trek
Tosh to Kheerganga is all walk trek. First, you need to reach Barshaini which is 4km down the road. From there, the trek starts from a bridge. You do not need to hire anything to go to Barshini.
Where To Stay During Kheerganga Trek?
Kheerganga has ample of options located on the peak. People have different types of tents.
I stayed in a deluxe tent which costs INR 500 per tent per night and maximum of 3 people inside a tent.
Everything else is very cheap.
You will also get a lot of options on the trek for eating.
That is all you need to know.
Have a great trip!!
